The Didache, and important first century document widely used by early believers from its introduction in the late first century until the rise of Constantine and beyond. It was so important to early believers that some argued for its inclusion into the New Testament canon. Though it was not included in the finalized canon (except in derivative form by the Ethiopian Orthodox Church "broader canon") it was nonetheless widely circulated and highly regarded by the earliest believers. The work was eventually lost to history for centuries until its rediscovery by Greek Orthodox metropolitan Philotheos Bryennios (pictured) in 1873 as part of the Codex Hierosolymitanus. The Greek title of the manuscript is Διδαχὴ κυρίου διὰ τῶν δώδεκα ἀποστόλων τοῖς ἔθνεσιν or, Teaching of the Lord to the Gentiles by the Twelve Apostles.
